Positive Affirmations for Healthy Eating

27th September 2016 By thefamilynutritionexpert

When you’re trying your best to watch what you eat and drink, temptation can seem everywhere… Suddenly everyone around you seems to be tucking into indulgent high sugar treats and sugary drinks, and it can be hard to say no.

And then there’s the time… we seem to have so little of it and convenience foods are always within reach, tempting us with the promise of faster, more time efficient meals. Sadly ‘fast’ foods and nutrition rarely go hand-in-hand. You want to choose foods that nourish and sustain your body, foods that keep your family healthy AND happy.

But temptation makes it tough to make good choices.

Step forward healthy eating affirmations!

An affirmation is a positive statement that enables you to focus and reflect on the feelings, foods and choices that we wish to draw into your life. When practiced regularly, affirmations can be an incredibly powerful way to increase your focus and will power, turning negative ‘can’t do’ thoughts into positive ‘can do and will do’ thoughts that will help you to resist temptation.

When you repeat an affirmation over and over again, it sends a message to your Reticular Activating System (RAS) that this is something that’s important to you. Your mind then reacts, pushing the thought to the forefront of your awareness and and kick-starting your motivation.

The most effective affirmations are simple, clear and focused on a single thought, aspiration or goal. They work best when written in the present tense and spoken aloud.  Stick them all around your house on post its, especially in the kitchen.  Or use an affirmation that pops up on your phone with your morning alarm or throughout the day.  This way you’ll always stay mindful of your health goals and more likely to stay on track.
